Chairman & CEO
Bryan has more than 35 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur and in the private equity, investment banking/corporate finance, and risk management consulting fields. While an industry generalist, he has emphasized the areas of real estate, real estate-intensive operating businesses, specialty finance, hospitality and healthcare.
Bryan founded MVP in 1996 as a boutique private investment firm to invest in small – middle market companies, asset portfolios and illiquid financial investments, where market, capital, structural and/or operating inefficiencies could be identified and harnessed to create outsized risk-adjusted returns. Since then, he has personally overseen the raising and deployment of over $1.1 billion of equity capital, which has generated an average annual return of over 35%. This capital has come from a wide variety of investors (including pension funds, insurance companies, IB prop desks, private equity firms, hedge funds, fund-of-funds, private banks, family offices, and UHNW investors) in the US and 14 countries in Europe, as well as from the firm itself. Amongst these investments have been numerous companies where Bryan and his team have held significant strategic and operational roles, including in the specialty finance, fine art storage and logistics, multi-family apartment, hotel, wine, entertainment and oil and gas industries.
Bryan earned an MBA degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and a BSE degree, cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Founder and Executive Managing Director
Ted has over 25 years of professional experience in real estate and specialty finance. He began his career as a real estate broker, and in 2016, recognizing the growing economic impact of the nascent cannabis business, he co-founded Sweet Leaf Capital.
Ted led the financing initiative for SLC, raising commitments of over $116M, making the company one of the largest equipment lessors in the cannabis industry. Ted is a recognized leader in the cannabis financing industry, forging relationships with both borrowers and equipment vendors, and more recently expanding into real estate finance.
Ted earned a BS in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Founder and Executive Managing Director
Prior to co-founding Sweet Leaf Capital, Gabe was head of Global Real Estate for MolsonCoors Beverage Company. During this time, he oversaw all property type investments including office, industrial/logistics, multi-family and residential in a portfolio worth in excess of $1B.
At SLC, Gabe oversaw underwriting and finance and was instrumental in its growth as the largest owner of cannabis processing equipment in the US.
Gabe holds a Master’s Degree in Finance and Real Estate from University of Denver where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned a BA from Syracuse University.
Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer / Investment Committee Member
Kevin spent his 20 year career in both corporate finance and fund management roles. Previously, he served as Chief Financial Officer at Bloom Medicinals, one of the largest, privately owned multi-state cannabis operators in the US. While there, he played an instrumental role in the company’s growth by working closely with management and institutional investors to develop capital allocation strategies. In addition, he provided timely and accurate financial analysis and forecasts of Bloom Medicinals’ financial trends.
As an award-winning fund manager, Kevin has developed and managed numerous high-value added investment strategies throughout his career, including traditional separately managed account strategies and collective funds, both 40-Act NASDAQ listed and private partnerships. He has been a featured speaker, presenting global investment strategy to investment professionals across the United States, as well as, to numerous bank, trading desks and family offices throughout the Middle East and China.
Kevin has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Amherst College. Additionally, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder (CFA).
Chief Commercial Officer
Upon graduation from law school, Andrew was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department of Hunter College, CUNY. He began his legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell and has also practiced with Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (Tokyo), Thatcher Proffitt & Wood, and Davis Wright Tremaine, focusing on technology, M&A, corporate finance, asset-based finance and commercial law.
As an investment professional, Andrew was SVP, Investment Banking, at SMBC Nikko Securities America, where he specialized in technology and cross-border finance, and SVP, Portfolio Management and Strategic Development, at Madison Capital Management (predecessor to MVP), where he originated, structured, closed and asset-managed CRE assets including hotels, multi-family and commercial properties, and established new non-RE investment silos.
He was most recently COO of Tress Capital, a boutique investment firm focusing on early-stage investment in the cannabis industry and an independent business development consultant.
Andrew received a BS from Cornell University and a JD from NYU School of Law. Andrew is a member of the New York Bar.
Senior Managing Director, Capital Markets / Investment Committee Member
Andy’s over 30 year career has included working with the most prominent people and organizations in the investing world, focusing on real estate, energy, biotech, trading platforms and litigation strategies. His attributes have been critical in his successful investing in distressed investments, restructuring, building early-stage companies and driving strategic options for more seasoned enterprises.
Having managed hundreds of investments and billions of dollars of capital, Andy is experienced in all areas of finance, M&A, tax, litigation, regulation and fund management. He was the CEO of National Asset Direct , an owner of a residential mortgage company and an REO company and has also been a member of several creditor and equity committees, public and private boards and held various executive positions.
Andy earned a JD from the Law School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in Economics, Magna Cum Laude, from Wharton School. Andy is a member of the New York Bar.
General Counsel & Board Secretary
Suzanne brings 30 years of diverse legal and business experience ranging from strategic business planning, business transactions, tax law, equity and debt financings. Suzanne has also served in significant management and operational roles for companies with responsibility for capital development, deal sourcing, investor relations and project management.
She has been working with MVP since 2015, serving as General Counsel to its portfolio companies as well as managing all aspects of business affairs. Suzanne was previously a partner with the national law firm of Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP and is the founder and CEO of a boutique law and multi-family office firm. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America in Estates & Trusts and as a Super Lawyer in Cincinnati, Ohio in the field of Estate Planning, and by Worth Magazine as a top 100 Estate Planner in the United States.
Suzanne received a BA in Economics, Summa Cum Laude, from Youngstown State University and her law degree, Summa Cum Lauder, from Case Western Reserve School of Law.
Board Member / Investment Committee Member
Jonathan is an investment professional specializing in the area of real estate and finance, sourcing and underwriting new corporate investment opportunities, capitalizing/restructuring operating companies, acquiring/repositioning underperforming assets, redeveloping distressed properties, and acquiring fully-stabilized core and value-added properties.
Most recently, Jonathan was President and owner of a vertically integrated real estate investment consulting and finance company located in Newport Beach, CA. He provided services to a wide range of investors and third-party clients, most notably as the primary real estate advisor to CalPERS and CalSTRS, during the “great financial crisis” of 2006-2015, when he advised on over $3.1B of debt restructurings and the development of a strategic investment strategy for its $20B investment portfolio.
Jonathan earned an MBA from Chapman University, a Masters in City Planning and Regional Planning from Cal Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and an undergraduate Political Science degree. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the School of Business at Chapman University and an Advisory Board Member at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Mike brings 25 years of executive leadership experience with a focus on the commercialization of innovative and disruptive products, business development and M&A. Most recently, Mike was the CEO of Ziden Medical, an early stage company focused on early-stage lung cancer.
Prior to this role, Mike served as the CEO of ROX Medical, a privately-held medical device company that pioneered vascular therapy for hypertension. Mike also has extensive experience in guiding commercial strategy and leading impactful teams at global multinational organizations , including four years as VP, Head of Sales for Philips North America’s Image Guided Technologies division, where he also played a key tole in Philips’ $2B acquisition of Spectranetics.
Mike has also held senior management positions at Volcano Corporation, AtheroMed, Hansen Medical, AccessClosure, FoxHallow Technologies and StorageTec. Currently Mike sits on the Board of Directors BundIAR, Pristine Surgical, Spectrum King LED, and Angeles Madison Residential.
Mike holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
As Corporate Controller, April is responsible for the delivery of financial services including all accounting functions, accounts payable and receivable, treasury management, financial reporting, new business financial due diligence, budgeting, audit and tax oversight. Prior to joining Sweet Leaf Madison Capital, April held a senior accounting role with SchlumbergerSema focused on the acquisition of utility-based companies and has worked as Corporate Comptroller for over 20 affiliated investments of Madison Ventures+ since 2004.
April has 25 years of experience providing professional accounting services across a broad range of industries including manufacturing, hospitality, multi-family housing, vineyard, entertainment, media production, hedge fund and private equity investments. She has expertise in implementation of systems, policies, procedures and automation of expense and consolidated reporting in start-ups, merger and acquisition situations.
Senior Vice President, Operations
Jason joined Sweet Leaf in October of 2018. He is responsible for creating and implementing policies, procedures, and systems to improve organizational efficiency. He has over 10 years of financial experience. He began his career in finance at Deutsche Bank on the Equity Specialty Sales desk, where he worked as an analyst.
Following his time at Deutsche Bank, Jason was a Proprietary Trader, where he traded his own book of equities and equity derivatives. Prior to joining Sweet Leaf, the predecessor to Sweet Leaf Madison, he was the CFO and co-founder of Impact eCommerce, which helped clients unlock the value in their eCommerce businesses.
Jason graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in Economics.
Jill is responsible for all administrative functions including onboarding employees, company payroll, benefits administration, and full-cycle recruiting.
Jill has over 20 years combined experience in Recruiting, General Administration, and Human Resources for a number of companies with industries ranging from Telecommunications/Engineering, Finance, and Real Estate/Mortgage.
Prior to joining SLMC, Jill held various Administrative/Recruiting positions with Yoh Staffing Services, Aerotek Contract Engineering, and Decision One Mortgage.
Jill holds a BS in Business Administration from Wichita State University and resides in Denver, Colorado.
Quin has over 25 years of corporate and real estate accounting; including residential, hotel, hospitality, multifamily, and retail development. Since joining Sweet Leaf Madison, Quin has held the position of Controller. Her primary responsibility for the company is overseeing and supervising the daily accounting functions including treasury management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, monthly close process, and financial reporting.
Prior to joining SLMC, Quin held Corporate Controller and Accounting Manager roles with MAG Builders, RIDA Development, and The Morgan Group, focused on real estate development in Englewood, CO, and Houston, TX. Quin’s accomplishments included creating and implementing policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues, in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.
Quin is an avid hiker. She enjoys all sports and loves to travel to warm, sunny beaches.
Vice President, Underwriting
As Director of Underwriting, Nathan is responsible for creating underwriting procedures, underwriting transactions, negotiating deal structure, and presenting investments to the Investment Committee and secondary market investors.
Prior to Sweet Leaf Madison, Nathan was an underwriter for Key Corporate Bank – Specialty Finance Lending (“KCBSFL”) where he underwrote over $100 million in new transactions, monitored a portfolio of 12 specialty finance-lender finance borrowers representing ~$900 million of commitments, and leading the internal collateral audit function, leading 13 onsite field exams.
Prior to KCBSFL, Nathan was an Associate Director at EverBank-Lender Finance, tasked with managing the transportation portion of the lender finance portfolio, representing ~$500 million in commitments.
Nathan graduated from Drexel University with a B.S.B.A.
Contract Administration & IT
Robyn has over 20 years combined experience in providing professional and legal support services, corporate training, project management, and IT functions in a number of industries, including county government and various national law firms. Before joining Sweet Leaf Madison, Robyn had many diverse responsibilities in the national law firm of Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP, including her role as a Paralegal in the Corporate/Tax Benefits & Wealth department and later as a Training and IT Specialist.
At SLMC, Robyn is responsible for all aspects of corporate transactional support, contract administration, and corporate project management. Robyn also provides support for SLMC in the areas of risk management and insurance, including the placement of comprehensive insurance programs based on the risks of each asset, risk management evaluation, and the management of claims. In addition, Robyn is responsible for various IT functions, including software requirements, technical needs, data security, and document retention.
Robyn lives and works out of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Information Technology with an emphasis on Information Security.
Robyn enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends and family. She and her husband, Derek, are the proud parents of Amber, 25, and Sophie, 17.
Vice President, Origination
As the VP of Origination for Sweet Leaf Madison Capital, Sean is responsible for origination, tracking emerging markets and trends, negotiating deal structures, and maintaining client relationships. Prior to this, Sean was the investment director and was responsible for underwriting credit risk, and securitizing loans for the secondary market.
Prior to joining Sweet Leaf, the predecessor to Sweet Leaf Madison, in 2019, Sean worked in the Investment Management and Financial Services Industry for Janus Henderson Investors U.S. and BNP Paribas Securities Services.
Sean earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business.
Marketing & Operations Manager
As the Manager of Marketing and Operations for Sweet Leaf Madison Capital, Emma is responsible for curating everything related to digital & social media, PR & communications, marketing, co-marketing with preferred vendors, streamlining internal workflow processes, and other operational initiatives.
Emma has worked across many industries prior to SLMC, including hospitality (Gerber Group), interior design (Restoration Hardware), and technology (Air Company). Within these industries, Emma has held roles in business operations, marketing, and project management. Prior to joining SLMC, Emma was a designer for Restoration Hardware.
Emma graduated with honors with a BFA in Architecture from Parsons School of Design, where she was selected to have her work archived in the school’s permanent collection. She was featured in Madame Architect’s NextGen series.
Emma is based in New York City. In her personal time, you can find Emma boxing, trying new restaurants, and traveling.
As a Loan Processor, Jasmine is responsible for collecting required documentation from the client prior to moving the deal forward to the next level of processing.
Prior to Sweet Leaf Madison, Jasmine was a Loan Servicing Specialist for Cobank, where she processed over 100 different loan transactions and reporting during the booking process for CoBank customers in the rural and agricultural business. Before that, Jasmine was a Money-In Specialist handling millions of payroll contributions and managing high profile accounts for Empower Retirement.
Jasmine graduated from Roanoke College with a B.S.
As an Associate Underwriter for Sweet Leaf Madison Capital, Jonathan evaluates credit risk, analyzes borrowers, generates financials, and quantifies the viability of projects.
Over the last five years, Jonathan has worked in various business roles, from interning for Ireland Stapleton, a Denver-based law firm, to helping his sister start her own consulting business. Growing up, Jonathan watched his father and grandfather work in the real estate and construction industries, which ultimately drew him to grad school for a master’s in real estate during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jonathan graduated from the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business with an M.S. in Real Estate and a BSBA in Finance and Real Estate. Before working at Sweet Leaf Madison, Jonathan was a real estate analyst for a startup.
Jonathan is based in Denver. When not at work, Jonathan is either with friends, on an airplane, or spending time with his sheepdog, Seamus.
